Default Odd request

In the course of the past 24 hours I recieved 2 pm's in Kamadan from someone asking me permission to take screenshots of the rare items I was selling so he could post them on his website.

The first time (yesterday) not thinking much of it I said "ok" but before he could zone to where I was i got an odd feeling about it and logged out. The second time (today) I just replied with a "no" and that was it.

It strikes me odd because wiki bosts pictures of every single available item in GW. I must also confess with all the account hacking going on I find myself quite on edge.

What are your thoughts on this...and has anyone experienced the same?

Age old scam.

He'll ask you to give them to him for just a moment so that he can take a picture of his character wearing the item.

Either that or ask you to drop it on the ground so he can take a picture of the on-the-ground image.

Either way, he's aiming to steal your items. Nothing new.

Note quite NoConnection. He's going to ask the person to drop the item on the ground. And even though he's standing really far away, he's going to use an assassin or ebon vanguard escape skill to teleport to the player and steal the item.

Right under trading scams.

This scam is far older than I am. Do people still try this? Nevermind the last question. Do people still fall for this?

I'm thinking the person/ hacker takes shots from people with rare items so he can note the ign which he needs to login to the account. Then that person browses guru looking for players selling the same item in the hopes he can hack that persons NcSoft account.

On the other hand i might just be paranoid.

Thats not nearly as ODD as the guy who appeared next to me in GTOB today with an EXACT copy of my warrior, facial features hair and everything were the same right down to my 5+ year old glads armor {even dyed the same} I quickly changed to some wrists dyed differently and he did too.
My name if "Kanwulf The Viking" his was "Kanwolf the Vikings" he followed me around to the point of me having several people PM me asking wtf was going on. lol

Seeing as how I stopped playing for a couple years and my friends list never has an active person on it now I know it wasn't someone I know messing with me, how did this guy dupe my warrior and more importantly WHY? Are people so bored in here that this passes for something to randomly do now?

A mini Kanwulf would be sweet but that was just creepy!!!

Um because I am not going to read all the responses(cause I am tired) I am going to say this and hope I am not repeating anyone.

People who create texmods will often ask to have you put an item into a trade box and just have you show the item. Not click accept or anything.

They may also ask to see you wielding an item outside. Not drop it on the ground or ever let them have it on there account.

A post on guru about wanting to look(not have) at items was made a long time ago and I actually found it. They use texmod to extract the image and post it up on some project thing.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/i...texmod+project

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild...nventory_icons

These link to the gwg thread and the wiki project itself. So in this case he may not have been trying to scam. May have literally just wanted to extract the image using texmod. However, if that was the case I would hope he explained himself.

I got a guy banned for this. He'll stand one aggro bubble away from you, ask you to drop it, and he'll shadow step to you, take the item and run into town.

I purposely lost a rune of doom. When I mocked the moron, he didn't even know what it was for. He PM'd me asking, "What's it for?"

PM the person you "scam". Smart scammer is smart.

Old scam. Add people to ignore list immediately when they PM you asking this. What they plan on doing was having you drop it on the floor to "take a screenshot" but their true intentions were/are to teleport to you with a shadowstep skill and pick up the item.

lol! This wins thread. And it's funny because you can still report them since a scam is a scam. /w00t @ 2 week suspension for stealing a white item. Countering scammers is always so much fun. :3
